Role:
UX/UI Designer & Creative Technologist: Designed the user experience, interaction flow, and interface system for an intelligent waste-sorting solution. Developed the visual feedback system, mapped user interactions, and explored how machine learning and automation can create a more intuitive recycling experience.
Arduino: Physical computing and hardware prototyping
p5.js / JavaScript: Interactive interface development and system visualization
Machine Learning (ML): Object recognition and material classification
Wood Fabrication & Prototyping: Built the physical enclosure and interactive prototype structure.
Inspiration
The project was inspired by observing how users interact with recycling systems in public spaces. Ambiguous labels and unclear sorting categories often lead to incorrect disposal decisions. I explored how interaction design could simplify this process by translating machine-learning decisions into clear visual feedback, creating a more intuitive and guided recycling experience.
Smart Waste Sorting Interface is a UX/UI project that explores how intelligent systems and real-time feedback can simplify recycling interactions. Using machine-learning-based recognition, the system identifies waste categories and provides immediate visual and physical feedback to guide users toward correct disposal. By reducing decision-making effort through automated responses and clear interaction patterns, the project creates a more intuitive and accessible recycling experience.
Final Product Testing
The project was exhibited at the IMA Winter Show, where users interacted with the prototype and provided feedback on the overall experience, usability, and interaction flow.
